Welcome to our 32nd edition of Velasco Chronicle & Buzz.
March welcomes us with warmer weather, blooming flowers, and the Earth seems to come to life again. It also marks the start of Spring, a season of new beginnings. March
is still the first month of the year for at least one billion people including most
regions of India, t
he Persian new year, Nowruz, is celebrated on March 21 around the world—from Iran and the Middle East to the Balkans, the Black Sea, and Central and South Asia and t
he orthodox Jewish calendar starts the new year with the month of Nisan.
Daylight Saving Time starts in most areas in the USA, Canada, and Mexico in March and allows us to enjoy an extra hour of daytime in the evening. The general idea is that this allows us all to make better use of natural daylight, moving the clocks forward one hour in the spring grants us more daylight during summer evenings. Sunrise and sunset will be about 1 hour later as we “spring forward” one hour and start thinking of "Summer Time."
On March 17, Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated which has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, drinking, a whole lot of green and shamrocks. Historically, known as the Patron Saint Of Ireland and the Apostle Of Ireland, Patrick was instrumental in bringing the Roman Catholic beliefs to Ireland. In subsequent years, Saint Patrick's Day became a day to commemorate Catholicism in Ireland.
Last but not least, for all the avid sports fans, March Madness will begin this month for the college basketball teams. The 2022 NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Tournament will involve 68 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the men's National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 college basketball national champion for the 2021–22 NCAA Division 1 men's basketball season. The 83rd annual edition of the tournament is scheduled to begin on March 15 and will conclude with the championship game on April 4 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
