February is mostly recognized for Valentine’s Day, flowers, and depending on where you are, being incredibly cold!
Oddly enough, even though it’s just another month, there’s a lot of history behind this month of romance and love!
The Lunar New Year is rung in Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, with festivities celebrated by nearly 2 billion people worldwide that can go on for more than two weeks.
Also known as the Chinese New Year -- and as the Spring Festival in China -- the celebration marks the end of the Year of the Ox and the start of the Year of the Tiger.
A traditional time to honor ancestors and deities, with family reunions and street parades, and fireworks to drive off evil spirits. While based on the Chinese lunar calendar, Lunar New Year is also celebrated in Korea, Singapore, Mongolia, Tibet, Vietnam and in Asian communities worldwide.
Following Chinese New Year, is the 2022 Winter Olympics which are set to take place on Friday, February 4 through Sunday, February 20. The 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in China across three zones: Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou. There will be a total of 109 medal events across 15 different sports and additionally will feature seven new events. The 15 Winter Olympic sports in 2022 are bobsled, luge, skeleton, ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating, short track speed skating, curling, alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined.
And let's not forget that love is the air this month on Valentines Day on February 14th. Valentine’s Day is always a good time to remind spouses, partners, children, friends, neighbors, and even pets how much love there is to go around (and this isn't all about retail purchases, of course).
Many people enjoy special celebrations at home featuring homemade gifts or special desserts and o
thers head out to a favorite restaurant, while still others try to get away for a weekend. However you decide to celebrate Valentines Day this year, just remember to spread the love with the people that matter the most.
