Welcome to our 26th edition of Velasco Chronicle & Buzz.
As we approach the month of September, it’s a little for everyone, the last days of summer and the first days of fall. The ninth month of the year, September, marks the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere and the start of fall officially begins on September 22.
Traditionally considered the month that marks transitions between seasons, it is often one of the most temperate weather-wise.
The Moon Festival, celebrated for at least 3,000 years and is said to be the second largest festival in China after the Chinese New Year. Observed on the 15th day of the eighth month of the traditional Chinese lunar calendar, occurs on September 21 this year.
This autumn festival occurs during the full Moon nearest the fall equinox, which is traditionally said to be the brightest and roundest. Local festivities might involve brightly colored lanterns, dances, games, and other entertainments. Families and friends celebrate into the evening to give thanks for the harvest and for being together, offering each other wishes for happiness and long life and remembering loved ones who live far away.
We like to think of September as the month of apples, as apple-picking becomes a common weekend pastime this month. Gala, Macoun and McIntosh ones are the most popular to be ready to go in September, so start stocking up now. Gala apples are sweet with a reddish-orange and yellow-striped skin. Deep red and golden Macoun apples have a sweeter, tarter flavor; because they're very juicy, they're great for applesauce. The red- and green-skinned McIntosh apples are one of the most aromatic apples around.
This September also marks the 20th anniversary of 9/11. We commemorate those who we lost and give thanks to the brave first responders who put their lives on the line.

September Health Tip
September is Healthy Aging Month, which was designated in order to focus national attention on the positive aspects of growing older. The “Healthy Aging Campaign” was established 15 years ago, and since then, individuals help others become aware of their physical and mental health, diet, social skills and even financial situations; all factors that contribute to successful aging.
Healthy Aging Month encourages to act how you feel — instead of acting your age! This month also encourages our seniors to take charge of their well-being, by aging with a healthy body (physical health) and a healthiest mind (mental health).

Catch a Niners game at Levi’s Stadium!
After an entire season in an empty stadium last year, Levi’s Stadium is welcoming fans back to watch the Niners hopefully make it to the playoffs. No matter what, the Jimmy G vs. Trey Lance QB situation will be interesting to watch, and even though football is probably “better” to watch on TV these days, there’s nothing quite like being there in person when Bosa gets a sack or Kittle fights his way into the end zone.
